Political Cynicism

When it comes to politics, I'm a cynic. For the most part, I know who I want to vote for in the next election. What is disturbing to me is the lies the candidates are telling to sell their points.

Recently, I started reading The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris. In it, Timothy tells how he picks who he votes for in elections. Before voting time, he contacts people he trusts in the U.S. who pay attention to the candidates and asks them for a break down on the candidates. Then he contacts similar people overseas to get a foreign perspective on American politics. That's it. He doesn't follow the day-to-day B.S. told by this or that candidate.

I must say his style voting is kind of intriguing to me. While I enjoy listening to the latest political news. It is mostly just propaganda that has little bearing on how the candidates will act in office. It's like gossip or a good drama. It selfishly draws you in and leaves you sweating with excitement about how much the other guy or gal is the epitome of evil and will ruin the nation.

It is, of course, bullsh*t.

If my candidate wins or the other guy wins, the world will continue to run. They will not frak up the White House any more than our current president.

It's a game of anger, hate, and manipulation. I'm not sure I want to play.
