Furagone's Wake
Based on the Irish folk song, " Finnegan's Wake", this cat song tells the story of a Sphynx Cat who loses his ninth life. His fellow cats gather for a wake that turns into one big cat fight. Look for it on my Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers CD.

The Pleasant Peasant Pheasant Plucking Song
A few days ago I got a reminder email. A woman had emailed me "a year and a day ago" about how she heard a fun song called "The Pheasant Plucking Song". She thought it'd be cool for us to have a "Pleasant Peasant Pheasant Plucking Song". Okay, I admit it. Sometimes I just nod and smile when people make requests. I don't have time to write them all. But I took a break this week and said, "what the heck", and wrote this tongue twister.

Here's to the Dreamers
I've never written a filk about Anne of Green Gables before,
but I started watching it as I climbed into bed. Before I knew
it, a song was dying to come out, so I went and recorded it. It's a rough recording, but ye'll get the idea.

The
Parting Glass from Soul of a Harper
At the end of October, I went to a Celtic
Reels, and event sponsored by the Gaelic League of Austin. They showed The
Quiet Man and Waking Ned Divine. After the later, I couldn't help,
but sing this song. And when I got home, I recorded it and decided it'd make an
excellent addition to Soul of a Harper.

My
Titania, Wake You, My Sweet Queen from Soul of a Harper
Inspired in part by the fairy queen of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, this instrumental follows the dreams of a queen

Kyara,
the Elven Mistress of Whispers from Soul of a Harper
There's nothing like a challenge to inspire you
to write a song. I was so challenged by a slightly intoxicated elf. She was so
cute, and I was already in the recording mood, that I wrote this song.

Buttercup's Lament from Soul of a Harper
This story started as a song about a woman who's true love was lost at sea. It was then named after Buttercup from the movie, The Princess Bride.

My
Love Is Like A Red, Red Rose from Soul of a Harper
Robert Burns wrote some of the most beautiful love songs. And
this is just one example of his mastery. This version is sung a capella.

A
Miner's Lullaby (Coorie Doon)
I heard this song in a lecture by Ed Miller.
It's a beautiful hypnotic lullaby by Matt McGinn (1928-1977) one of the most prolific
songwriters of the Scottish Folk Revival. "Coorie doon" means to "snuggle down"
as well as "courch down". McGinn does an amazing job at applying the images of
a child in going to bed and the miner going down into the mines.

The
Leprechaun - from Soul of a Harper
The Leprechaun is a fun St Patrick's Day song that makes a silly analogy between
the mischievious modern Leprechaun and the the even older backward thinking of
traditionalists.

Middle
Earth Bragging Song - from Soul of a Harper
I wrote this at the end of January 2003. Unfortunately, it was too late to add
to our upcoming Tolkien CD, "Memories of Middle Earth", but it makes
me smile. Here's why: One of the peculiar things I noticed reading Lord of the
Rings was that every time Frodo and company met another race, they seemed to be
the OLDEST. It started to get funny after a while. So I wrote this as a sorta
bragging song of the races of Middle Earth. Originally I called it "Never
Give Up the Mountain", but I wanted a name that was more indicative of what
it was about.

Patriot
Game
During our first year together, we were introduced
to a wide variety of music. One of the first tapes someone lent me was a tape
of I.R.B. tunes. Well the very first task we had to figure out was what I.R.B.
stood for? Irish Republican Brotherhood. The Irish Republican Brotherhood was
formed on Saint Patrick's Day in 1858. It was an underground organization designed
to remove the English from Ireland.

Killiecrankie - from Soul of a Harper
A rousing traditional Scottish
song about the Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689. The first three verses and chorus
were written by Robert Burns in 1789. Graham of Claverhouse (Bonnie Dundee) was
slain, ending Jacobite hopes.
