Iced Cappuccino Love

by Marc Gunn, May 3, 2005

Relationships are often marred with fear. But it's how we face with and deal with that fear that determines the success of those relationships.

Gather a friend and join
The hands of lonely people,
The skeptics and the cynics.
Love is not achievable
   in this lifetime,
Not when You are your
      Worst enemy.

There's a lady drinking an Iced Cap.
Red pants and an overwhelming,
  Black baby doll.
Yes, she's studying.
She's studying a way to earn her Mrs.
But all she'll ever find is a PhD,
    Piled hire and Deeper.

Lonely and dispossessed
By big dreams and solemn scarred
        desires.
Too many men,
Too many cigarettes,
Too many wrinkles,
    From worrying she'll die alone
    And she will.

But You!
   You who hobble after
         hopeless handicaps.
You know who you are.
Always doing your best
  to sabotage any
  trickle of happiness.
Bite your eyes.
Give love a chance.
You're not the dumbass
  you appear to be.
You're just scared.

It's only your fear
That is truly your enemy
Grotesque and hideous
Denizen of the shallowest
   Depths of your soul.
I said shallow.
Yeah.
    It ain't that deep.
So get over it.
Drown yourslef in the overwhelming bless of
    Iced cappuccino love.

The Sailboat Armada

by Marc Gunn & Kristen Roger, May 28, 2005

This song was written over Memorial Day Weekend. It was inspired by hearing that Kristen's dad paints sailboats. Kristen mentioned a sailboat armada, and swarthy sea shanty sang through my head in the key of Arrrrr!

O' supper time was over
As we left the Port Pub across the bay
When we saw a frightful sight
As the day turned to night
An invasion like none you've ever seen.

The sails fluttered with many colours.
The boat captains, horrifyingly clean.
Wearing Hawaiian print shirts,
Sandles, and dock shorts
T'was like a Yuppy Convention out at sea.

Thus sailed the Sailboat Armada
As the wind swept away the salt breeze.
On the seven seas I've roamed,
And no worse terror I've known
Than 300 Yacht Club Members out at sea.

Five ships led the race to dry dock
Like the America's Cup with canons.
When a bikini breasted lass
Stepped up to the mast
And was knocked on her ass by the shifting wind.

Somehow I survived the Sailboat Armada
Nevermore will I venture out to sea.
On Memorial Day I paint yachts
For yuppies to hit rocks
As a silent war against rich conformity.

Ode of Oceanflame Poetry Blog Review

I saw this Ode of Oceanflame Review which made me rather happy. The writer was reviewing literary blogs and seemed fairly pleased with my poetry blog.
Description: Celtic Poems written by the Celtic Folk Singer, Marc Gunn.

Content: 4 stars

Explanation: The poems are all free verse, do not seem to have a flowing rhythm, and can conjure strange, unusual images into the mind such as guitar-playing angels. The poems are msotly theme-related, and the most recurring themes are that of cats and of love and drinking (be it of tea or liquor). The ones on cats AND love are highly amusing.

The Irish-style poetry is quite different from the English most of us are used to, but one gets the hang of it after a few poems. They are quick and if you want clear imagery you may have to read it slower than you usually read poems, or you might actually have to read it twice. That being said I think his poems are really worth a look.

Design: 3 stars

Explanation: The design is pretty simple. The background gives it a real Irish feel, but besides that the site neither looks visually lush nor annoyingly messy. One may also notice the large number of cat-related things here and there.

Sidebar: 4 stars

Explanation: The site has two bars, one on top and one on the side. They bring you around a bunch of websites which are all apparently made by the author! Despite this, they are all quite unique as they cover different things, and lead you into account sites that may be of interest as well. "Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers" is a really interesting site, in my opinion.

Overall: 3 1/2 stars
